How to Publish an App on the App Store and Google Play from Nigeria
Building the app is half the job. Here is what it actually takes to get an app live on both stores when you are based in Nigeria.
Developer accounts
Apple charges an annual fee for the Apple Developer Program and Google charges a one-time fee for a Play Console account. Both accept international cards; some Nigerian bank cards are declined for foreign payments, so a dollar card or virtual card is often the easiest route. Organisation accounts require a D-U-N-S number for your registered company.
Google Play's testing requirement
New personal Play Console accounts must run a closed test with a minimum number of testers for a set period before they can publish to production. Plan for this: recruit testers from friends, communities or your waitlist before you finish building.
What you need for the listing
Prepare these before you submit, not after:
- →App icon, screenshots for each required device size and a short promo text
- →A privacy policy page on your own website
- →Data safety (Google) and App Privacy (Apple) answers that match what your app really collects
- →A support email or URL
- →A demo account if your app needs a login
Avoiding common rejections
Apple's most common rejections for new developers are incomplete features, broken links, missing purchase restore buttons and guideline 4.3, which covers apps that look too similar to others. Give your app a distinct design and purpose, test every button, and explain anything unusual in the review notes.
